European Union

Just a short note about the signing of the European Union (EU) Constitution. This confederacy of European nations has agreed on a constitution that establishes a secular background for the fledgling group. Pope John Paul II has strongly criticized the group for failing to acknowledge and recognize the historical contributions religion has played in the creation of these nations. I bring this up merely to point out a growing trend in certain regions of the world -- not separation of church and state but complete severing of church from all aspects of governmental and social life.
